This wonderful mate was handmade without the utilization of complex tools by an Argentine artisan. In our travels through South America we have met and come to know the artisan whose work is being showcased in this auction. We support the artisans and their efforts to provide a better quality of life for their families. Click on Photograph for Great Savings   THIS IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF ARGENTINA This Mate Gourd was made from the gourd of the Lagenaria vulgaris plant. It is used to drink a tea-like beverage called mate. This handmade mate gourd is approximately 3.00" tall. It is brown in color with an wide aluminum collar and footing. This unique Bombilla is made from Stainless Steel and has gold plated accents. It measures 7.25 inches long. It is very easy to clean, just remove the threaded bulb and rinse with warm water and mild detergent. Yerba Mate is an herb that is a traditional tea infusion used by the natives of South America. This tea-like beverage is consumed mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It is brewed from the dried leaves and stems of the Yerba Mate tree (Ilex paraguarensis). The infusion is prepared from the leaves of the Maté tree, a native of the tropical rain forests of northeastern Argentina, eastern Paraguay and southern Brazil. The Yerba is placed into the mate or gourd and hot water is added to create the infusion. The infusion is consumed through a traditional bombilla or straw that strains the herb. This stimulating herbal drink is low in caffeine and carbohydrates and contains generous amounts of amino acids and antioxidants. Yerba Maté reduces stress, boosts immunity, helps control appetite and stimulates the mind. Most buyers let me know by leaving positive feedback. If you have any question please send me a email.     HOW TO CURE A MATE GOURD Fill your new mate gourd 3/4 of the way full with fresh Yerba Mate. Fill the mate gourd with hot (Not Boiling) water. Let the hot water absorb for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the water level will have gone down due to absorption. Add hot water to fill the mate gourd again. Let the gourd sit for 24 Hours. After 24 Hrs. remove the Yerba Mate and gently scrape the inside of the mate gourd with a small spoon to remove loose debris. (Be careful not to damage the thick membrane of the gourd) Wash the inside of the mate gourd with hot water (do not use soap!). Repeat steps 1 through 7 one more time and you are ready to use your mate. STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 6   Thank you for your purchase!
