If you are looking for a really nice old German cracker jar, if you like pretty, and roses, and colorful then this is the one for you, bearing the blue Wheelock mark, a key hole with a wagon wheel in the top, Wheelock above the wagon wheel, Mfg Co in the lower part of the keyhole, then Germany below the key hole, all very clear and easy to read.
The coloring is a darker green near the top rim to a lighter shade of green near the base with pretty pink roses in shades of dark pink and light pink where the shades of green change. The rose petals are highlighted with white enamel to give them a three dimensional look. There is a molded design near the base and near the rim of the top, as well as gold gilt trim near the top that blends to sponging. The way it all comes together is just fabulous. The jar measures 5 & ½” wide and 4” tall. handles on two sides
The lid has the same shades of green with just a splash of pink in it to blend the shades together and the same molded design as the body of the cracker jar. There are a couple of paint imperfections on the lid, as you can see from the pictures. It also has a manufacturing flaw near the edge on the lighter side. It has the gold speckling covering it and is visible only on close inspection. It is not a chip, as I said, but done in manufacturing. Just to keep on the straight and narrow there is some roughness on the inner rim of the cracker jar, again not from damage but from manufacture. The handles are all good, no chips cracks or repairs. It is absolutely a beautiful old antique Wheelock German cracker jar. Wheelock is somehow related to the RS Prussia family, so you be the judge, and get this Wheelock German cracker jar to enjoy for years to come.
