Vintage Westinghouse Air Compressor (Twin Cylinder) Not Complete For sale is an older Westinghouse Air Compressor. This auction is for the twin cylinder engine assembly only; there is no tank and it does not appear to be complete. It looks like there is something missing from a manifold and some of the cooling fins are dented. An id plate shows it as being from the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. with a number of 4YC 109836. This item is extremely heavy! I have no idea how old it is, when it was last run, or what it might take to get it running. Received the following info from an eBayer when I last listed this item: I know a lot about these compressors. They were very well madeand heavy duty, but were discontinued about 40 years ago. Mosthad drive flywheels and were tank mounted and used as shopcompressors for railroads or whoever else wanted them.Westinghouse Air Brake became WABCO and then became LeRoi andthen became Dresser. An older air compressor dealer in your areamight know about them. Because the air outlet is flanged, thisone was used as a compressor on a small industrial switcherlocomotive. It never had a flywheel because it was driven off aPTO on the big diesel engine. The crankshaft is snapped off ascan be seen in the second picture. Trust me when I say thisthing is scrap iron. You may get $50 for it at a scrap metaldealer. The finned intercooler is copper, so if you take thatoff, you'll get a little more for it as separated metals. Copperis bringing high prices right now. Or you may get lucky and sellit on ebay to someone who wants valve parts for an old onethat's still running. It certainly isn't worth shipping thewhole thing. A compressor dealer would give you the story on it,if they're old enough to remember. This item belonged to a family member who recently passed away. He was a small engine repairman prior to retirement and a collector of stationary (hit or miss) engines and antique tractors prior to his passing.
