Here is an unusual item for you quilters! This is an old Sunbonnet Sue sewn quilt
block, all hand pieced, embroidered and embellished. The fabric backing measures approx 36” wide
and 21” high, and the design itself is approx 24” x 14”.
I rescued this piece from an estate sale, so I know nothing
about the age, maker or materials. But
it seems like cotton fabrics from a vintage era, the hand-stitching done with
white, single strand, twisted material giving nice texture. (in other words, it
doesn’t seem to be plain old embroidery floss)
Looks like buttonhole and satin stitches. There is machine stitching as well, all even
and perfect.
A lovely old piece like this is not without its flaws. There are a few spots of soiling, which I
don’t know whether or not will wash out.
The purple dress fabric shows through slightly from under the yellow
fabric arm. But you’ll forgive these
imperfections, as there are no holes, fraying or odors.
These precious girls will make an exquisite center block on
a wall hanging or quilt, or will be quite striking as a window valance or throw
pillow. Use your imagination….all the
time-consuming hard work has already been done for you!
I know I’m listing this unbelievably cheap, but I haven’t
washed it and don’t know if the small spots will come out. If they don't, I'll bet you could sew some little beads or embellishments on and cover them up! So take a chance, bring this charming
Sunbonnet Sue block into YOUR home and bid NOW!
