Looking for a material which would be economical, low-maintenance and suitable for beginners and professionals alike, he has developed the ideal instrument.   Polymer resists the effects of moisture, both from the atmosphere and from the breath, and makes these instruments tolerant of temperature changes and knocks in transit. The musical tone is rich and golden - Professionals are using these flutes, piccolos and whistles just for the lovely, warm notes they produce.  Dixon instruments are easy to play, practically maintenance free and a pleasure to hold.  They make an ideal first instrument for the novice and a perfect complement to the range of instruments for the professional musician. Polymer, ABS, Aluminium, or Brass?  The different materials used come from a blend of practical reasons and musical tonal reasons.  Polymer provides a warm tone, aluminium and brass produce brighter tones.  Flute heads are Polymer and the whistle heads are ABS (another type of Polymer).
