  Tony Dixon Soprano D Whistle & Fife (Piccolo) Duo  Made in Devon, UK Back by request!  We have had so many customers asking for more  auctions that we decided to keep it going;  every week during March and April we will continue to add more.  Keep a watch out and grab yourself a good deal!  Find more in our Ebay store at www.ShopHeritageMusic.com           Sign up for our email newsletter to find about our sales and auctions.   This listing is for a brand new Soprano Pennywhistle in D and "Piccolo"  headjoint from Tony Dixon Whistles in Devon, UK.   The Tony Dixon “Duo” shares a common body between separate whistle and flute headjoints (“piccolo” headjoints for the higher keys such as this D Duo).  This allow the whistle player an opportunity to practice up on flute technique and vice versa, plus it affords a wide range of tonal possibilities.   These are fully tuneable, sturdy, warm sounding whistles.    They are fun and easy to play, lightweight, and have good volume.  They are made of Polymer with an ABS mouthpiece.  These instruments are being played by beginners and professionals all over the world. Players of the Dixon whistles usually describe the tone as pure, mellow, sweet and slightly “chiffy”,  their volume is quieter than an aluminum whistle but not too quiet to be used in small group sessions. Looking for a material which would be economical, low-maintenance and suitable for beginners and professionals alike, he has developed the ideal instrument.   Polymer resists the effects of moisture, both from the atmosphere and from the breath, and makes these instruments tolerant of temperature changes and knocks in transit. The musical tone is rich and golden - Professionals are using these flutes, piccolos and whistles just for the lovely, warm notes they produce.  Dixon instruments are easy to play, practically maintenance free and a pleasure to hold.  They make an ideal first instrument for the novice and a perfect complement to the range of instruments for the professional musician. Polymer, ABS, Aluminium, or Brass?  The different materials used come from a blend of practical reasons and musical tonal reasons.  Polymer provides a warm tone, aluminium and brass produce brighter tones.  Flute heads are Polymer and the whistle heads are ABS (another type of Polymer).
