It is used to heat a 1500 square foot house. This unit will burn any wood, including soft or unseasoned wood without the worry of creosote buildup. Including the steel and components, (a completly finished unit) You should check around for pricing before you buy the steel. Ask if they have any steel with light surface rust. (the cost is much less) Also, if you have a scrap yard near by, the best bet is to check with them first. I recently bought enough steel to make 4 more wood burners... and the cost of the steel was $0.10 per lb. DEB Design Outdoor woodstoves are built similar to commercial versions. These stoves consist of a fire box surrounded by a water jacket. A thermostat on the water jacket controls a damper which opens when the water temperature drops too low. Once the thermostate setpoint has been reached the thermostat opens up and the damper is again closed. In addition to the damper, a blower can be enabled to force 200 CFM of air into the firebox. This feature is most useful when first starting the stove for the season, or if green wood is being burned. Under normal operation though, the flue gasses exit the stove slowly, giving up heat to the water jacket as they exit. The water is then pumped to the heat load where the heat is transfered via liquid to air, or liquid to liquid heat exchangers. Too improve the effeciency of the stove, a removable shield located at the top of the firebox forces the flue gases to run along almost the entire top of the firebox before exiting.The ashes are removed every couple of weeks prior to loading by simply shoveling them through the large loading door.
