If you refer to a ODS system, the answer is yes! Actually if the unit dos not receive the necessary oxygen the flame become elongated and the flame go over the ION detector therefore shutting off the unit. Q: hi, a couple questions. for the flue, is there an amount of vertical pipe required before the pipe can turn horizontal? my situation is that i want to mount on an outside wall and need to run through the wall quickly. then.....how much vertical pipe is the minimum recommended outside before i cap it. thanks, paul A: Rule of thumb: For every feet before turn you need 3 feet vertical. Example: Go vertical 1 feet, turn through the wall and then vertical again 3 feet and then install the cap. If you go 2 feet and then turn you will have to have 6 foot of vertical before cap. Got it?
