Description:Solar energy is the cleanest and most inexhaustible of all known energy sources. Solar radiation is the heat, light and other radiation that is emitted from the sun. Solar radiation contains huge amounts of energy and is responsible for almost all the natural processes on earth. The suns energy, although plentiful, has been hard to directly harness until recently.Solar hot water heaters use the sun's renewable energy to either heat water directly or a heat transfer fluid in collectors. The solar collector is mounted either on or near a house facing south. When sunlight passes through a collector's glazed surface it strikes an absorbing material that converts sunlight into heat and the glazing prevents the heat from escaping. The popular and economical all glass vacuum tube collector is a double layer, coaxial glass tube made of borosilicate glass which is suitable for use in cold climates. According to government estimates, in comparison with gas, or electric hot water heaters, solar hot water heaters are, on average, 75% cheaper to operate on an annual basis and have a 20%-30% longer service life. Solar hot water heaters are nearly 3 times as efficient as electric and more than 80% as efficient as gas hot water heaters. Passive Solar Water Heater components:1) Evacuated tube collectors: Every solar hot water system needs a collector, Evacuated tube are much more efficient in the cold climates than the flat panel system. These collector are made of 3.3 high borosilicate double glass vacuum tube, The collectors are extremely well insulated due to a vacuum layer maintained between an outer and inner layer extremely tough borosilicate glass, They are so efficient they absorb 92% of solar radiation. The outer tube is transparent allowing light rays to pass through with minimal reflection. The inner tube is coated with a special selective coating (Al-N/Al) which features excellent solar radiation absorption and minimal reflection properties. The top of the two tubes are fused together and the air contained in the space between the two layers of glass is pumped out while exposing the tube to high temperatures. This "evacuation" of the gases forms a vacuum, which is an important factor in the performance of the evacuated tubes. Why a vacuum? As you would know if you have used a glass lined thermos flask, a vacuum is an excellent insulator. This is important because once the evacuated tube absorbs the radiation from the sun and converts it to heat, we don't want to lose it!! The vacuum helps to achieve this. The insulation properties are so good that while the inside of the tube may be 150oC / 304oF , the outer tube is cold to touch. This means that evacuated tube water heaters can perform well even in cold weather when flat plate collectors perform poorly due to heat loss.Evacuated tubes are aligned in parallel, the angle of mounting depends upon the latitude of your location. In a North South orientation the tubes can passively track heat from the sun all day. In an East West orientation they can track the sun all year round. 2) Stainless steel water storage tank: This is super insulated 76 Gallons water storage tank, The inner tank is pressurized SUS304-2B food grade stainless steel and the thickness is 0.4mm, outer tank is stainless steel plate thickness 0.4mm.between the two stainless steel layers there is 2 1/2 inches of high density urethane foam insulation, At night, the heat in the water tank is maintained by the urethane insulation, so the water temperature in the morning is nearly the same as it was in the late afternoon, inside the tank there is a high efficiency copper coil works as a heat exchanger which allows heat to be transfered from one liquid to another without the two mixing.3) Mounting brackets: Every solar water heater needs to have amounting system to hold the solar collector tubes and the solar tank, The mounting bracket is made of stainless steel plate thickness 0.4mm. Included items that are normally an upgrade:4) Backup electric water heater: Having a backup ensures that you will have hot water even if the sun is not shining.(Normally $200--included FREE)5) Auxiliary water tank: This 2 gallons auxiliary tank or assistant tank is used to supply water to main tank when water level in main tank is lower, it supply water to it automatically.(Normally $220--included FREE) MSRP $2200How does it work?passive solar hot water heaters are self-contained, single unit systems that integrate the solar collector and storage tank, it require only local water pressure and solar radiation to operate. No pumps, controls, mechanical or electrical components are required. Once installed, the system will work automatically. A greenhouse is an example of a passive solar system. the absorbs solar radiation through its selective surface coating by raising the temperature of the water stored in the tank, Through natural convection, hot water rises and cold water sinks. This principal explains the basic operation of a the System. Cold water sinks from the storage tank into the evacuated tubes. While in the tubes, the cold water is heated, and as it is heated it rises back up into the tank. Throughout the day, all of the cold water within the Thermpsyphon System will be heated in this fashion.Compare Solar to Conventional Water Heater SOLAR WATER HEATER: FREE energy from the Sun STANDARD WATER HEATER: COSTLY gas or electric Annual operating cost: $50 Annual operating cost: $500+ Storage Capacity: 50-120 gal Storage Capacity: 40-50 gal Life expectancy: 15-30 years Life expectancy: 8-12 years Lifetime operating cost: Less than $1,000 Lifetime operating cost: More than $10,000 Does NOT pollute environment Depletes fossil fuels Increases equity in your home No added value to your home 25% return on your investment No return on utility payments Protection from future increases At mercy of utilities/government Hot water during blackouts! No hot water during blackoutsWhy You should go solar? --Since the water heater is typically the second-largest energy user in the home, you'll save money by going solar.--The water heater increases the value of the house, And it’s a hedge against future energy cost increases.--Reduced demand for fossil fuels will improve the environment by reducing air and water pollution as well as the heat-trapping gases that cause global warming. it can save up to 4.5 tonnes annually of greenhouse gas emissions I can’t think of anything negative to say about the solar energy...Why Passive system? Passive solar water heater is among the most efficient solar systems rated by national testing and certification agencies. All passive solar water systems meet or exceed all applicable national plumbing and building codes. Our systems are virtually maintenance free self-contained and feature a twenty-five year design life. Whether your purchase decisions depend on simple pay back, return on investment or life cycle analysis, passive solar water heating system will exceed your expectations.specifications Commodity Passive-pressurized solar water heater Material Inner tank: SUS304-2B food grade stainless steel Outer tank: Stainless steel Bracket: stainless steel Insulation: Imported polyurethane with 55mm thickness Thickness Inner tank: 0.4mm Outer tank:0.4mm Bracket: 1.5mm Pattern of water inflow Side/Lower fitting length of vacuum tube 70" Capacity 76 Gallons Family of 4-7 Tank diameter: 18" Heat preservation: 72-80hours Hail resistance: 55 mile per hour vacuum tubes 32 high borosilicate vacuum tubes vacuum tube type 3.3 high borosilicate all glass vacuum tube For details of an index of incentives by state visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy.
