The Swimming Pool Solar Water Bag
SOLAR HEAT FOR YOUR SWIMMING POOL IN 15 MINUTES
Portable solar heat in fifteen minutes? If you have an in-ground swimming pool with at least one 1 ½ inch return, and a flat surface above the water line (the bag is 27 ft. by 2 ft.), yes you can have solar heated water in fifteen minutes. Better yet, unlike a solar blanket, you can swim while the solar system is at work. Having company or a party and want it out of the way? Just disconnect it, roll or fold it up in about fifteen minutes and it's gone.
WHAT IS A SOLAR WATER BAG
A solar water bag is basically a big water bag made of the same material swimming pool liners are made of (20 mil. Black polyvinyl chloride). Like any solar system, our solar water bag uses the power of the sun to generate heat. As water passes through the bag, the black surface of the bag absorbs the suns rays and heats the water.
HOW THE SOLAR BAG CAME ABOUT
Years ago while opening a swimming pool on a sunny, but cold, early, spring morning, I was amazed at how warm the water was coming out of the water bags I was emptying. I guess somehow the thought of it got lodged in the back of my mind somewhere. Not long ago I was thinking about the big, heavy, and bulky the solar panels that are on the market today. Somehow that thought about the cold, sunny day years ago came back to my mind. Why not make a giant, black water bag, put an inlet on one end, an outlet on the other end, run the pool water through it and let the sun rays do their thing?
The Swimming Pool Solar Water Bags
Remove from box. It is good idea to backwash or clean your filter element before you start.
Lay the Solar Bag out on deck or where ever you decide to put the solar bag (the hoses can be extended with standard garden hose and standard vacuum hose).
Move the Solar Bag close to the return you plan on using.
Unfold the solar bag.
Position the bag to where you want it. Remember the solar bag must be above the water line and cannot go on an uphill slant.
Turn off the pump. Remove the eye ball fitting from the return fixture on the pool wall.
Adjust the diverter valve. Start out with both valves open.
Screw the fitting on the end of the intake and diverter valve into to the reurn fitting (just a couple turns will do).
Place the return hose over the side of the pool and turn the pump back on.
Sit back and let the Solar Bag fill up, It is important that watch it as it fills up.
You can blow out a Solar Water Bag with to much water pressure. You can't go up hill (It has to be above the pools water line). Once the Bag fills up you adjust the hose valve till the bag feels puffy like a pillow.
