You are bidding on a "Eucomis Octopus" plant. Wine-red blooms 4 inches long and 3 1/2 inches high on thick red stalks surrounded by long, slender, succulent green foliage spotted with red-purple. Plant is 8 to 10 inches high, 15 to 18 inches wide. Very cold-hardy, this plant remains less than 2 feet tall! More Information..... Plant Patent #16,246. This dwarf Pineapple Plant is so beautifully variegated and exceptionally colorful that even out of bloom, it is the showpiece of any garden or container. The central blooms really do resemble pineapples, deep wine-red and topped with spotted, red-edged foliage. And the long, slender, rippled leaves that radiate outward from the center of the plant evoke an octopus's tentacles, giving this Eucomis its name. What an extraordinarily interesting plant to add to the landscape. Hardy only in zones 7-11, 'Octopus' is content in containers everywhere else. It is a dwarf, reaching only 8 to 10 inches high (when not in bloom) and 15 to 18 inches across, but such color and texture! The long, succulent leaves are widely spaced and arching, with plentiful reddish-purple spots. This color scheme is echoed in the smaller tuft of foliage above the blooms, which arise on thick 6-inch red stems about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The flowers themselves measure 4 inches high and nearly as wide, with deep wine-red petals dotted with a creamy-white tip. Magnificent! 'Octopus' is quite rare, yet few plants are easier to grow. Give it well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine and it will repay you with blooms in late summer and early fall, plus stunning foliage long past bloomtime.
