A BLUE EPI?
Well not really an EPI but a very close relative called 'Wittia Amazonica'. it has been a subject of Epiphyllum hybridizers for sometime due to the blue coloring but although its very fertile it tends to bloom in the middle to the end of most Hybrid Epis bloom time. Very rare and seldom offered, this species is very, very hard to find.
Very easy to grow, roots easy, grows fast during summer months, simular growing culture as epis, likes humidity and being misted in warm months, comes from the rainforests so loves the misting high humidity! but it does have one special requirement and i put it in bold below.
CAN NOT GO BELOW 50 DEGREES OR SERIOUS STEM DAMAGE EVEN LOSS CAN OCCUR!!!!
Ok now you know. That way you can't say i didnt tell you.
I live in Southern California so the weathers pretty mild here but i've gotten some really beat up stems when i left it out where the winter wind got to it and it shrivelled the stems. So i move it to a wall with a flood light for the few cold nights we have in winter and it does fine. Can even be grown as a houseplant as long as it gets plenty of indirect light. If you do get a little damage after winter no worries grows super fast during summer just give fresh soil in spring. Tends to bloom here around June to July. The buds look like skinny blooms so they last a good month or more till that finally open and it stays open a week or more, another reason to try it as a cross.Self fertile too, so you can get cross polination with out doing anything.
This auction is for 2 cuttings 8"+ L, of WITTIA AMAZONICA.
The plants/cuttings offered here were garden cultivated and were not collected from the wild.
Buyer pays $5.95 shipping to the lower 48 U.S. States, i'm willing to ship to more areas but additional shipping costs may be required, depending on your location.
