 Description Brugmansia sanguinea is one of the prettiest and most magnificent of the species of Angel Trumpets. From seed it grows quickly into a small tree that will be blooming in about a year. Its origins are the mountains of central America, and while easy to start, it is not easy to grow in my home state of Florida. In fact few plants offer more of a challenge for a Florida gardener. For that reason I suggest the Florida gardener skip this one. It positively hates our summer heat and humidity. Your only hope would be an air conditioned room that also gets nearly full sun. Major expense!! This plant loves the cool air of the mountain nights. If you can protect it from freezing during the winter, it will reward you with huge blooms spring through late fall. The blooms are about 10 inches long and downward hanging without really being pendulous. They are trumpet shaped with recurved mouths of red. The red gradually fades to orange, then yellow as it goes up the trumpet to the base which may be almost white. Each bloom is different even on the same plant. Some have more red while yellow is the dominate color of others. It produces a large egg shaped seed pod that will have few or many seeds depending on your pollinators. An indoor plant would have to be hand pollinated. There is a delicate fragrance most noticable in the evening and very enjoyable. Offered are young seedlings growing well in 4 inch pots and only a few inches tall.
