Q: What is the difference between AquaChek and the other pool and spa test strips available on the market? A: AquaChek is the top-selling brand of pool and spa test strips in the world. AquaChek test strips undergo strict release qualification. Constant monitoring of the manufacturing process ensures that the finest test strips are available for your use. In fact, AquaChek has earned the internationally recognized ISO 9001 certification by following strict quality standards.
To keep your pool at its best, test at each end a minimum of twice a week, and test your spa before each use. It’s also a good idea to write down your results each time you test.
Test Strips vs. Liquid Kits
Test Strips
Liquid Kit
Fast and very simple to use. Just dip a AquaChektest strip in your pool or spa for one second and remove it immediately for results.
Requires that a sample of water is placed into a plastic comparator
Easiest method for pool and spa water testing
Drops of chemical reagent must be carefully added and a change in color of the sample takes longer than test strips
Eliminate the need to measure samples and count drops
Liquid kits with the reagent OTO were oncewidely used to measure chlorine, but they have fallen out of favor in recent years. OTO measures only total chlorine, not free chlorine, which is the form of chlorine most effective in sanitizing your pool. In addition, we now knowthat the chemical reagent in the OTO-type kitcan cause cancer.
Many industry and water quality experts believe test strips deliver greater accuracy than liquid kits because they require less technique.
If you test for free chlorine using a DPD #1 liquid test kit, be aware that high levels ofcombined chlorine, or chloramines, can cause false-positive results when testing freechlorine. Substances such as monopersulfate (used for shock-treating pools) can also affect the results of the DPD test by causing a false positive reading. Moreover, the DPD testrequires careful technique and several steps to get the best results.
